TABOOS AND SLURS
Research article
Abstract
In recent years, there has been an increased interest among English–speaking linguists and language philosophers in slurs - racial, xenophobic, homophobic and other labels, such as "nigger", "kike", "faggot", etc. The aim of the study is to prove that the complex of perlocutionary effects attributed by Western researchers to slurs named the offense–generation pattern is not inherent in all words of this kind, but only those of them that are taboo. It is concluded that the presence of the properties of the word that make up the model of generating resentment is due to its taboo nature. The results of the study can find practical application in legal linguistics in the linguistic examination of texts in cases of insult and humiliation of honor and dignity on the grounds of race, nationality, religion, gender, etc.
