ON THE REPRESENTATION OF THE CONCEPT OF "CONSCIENCE" AS A PHILOSOPHICAL AND MORAL CATEGORY IN ENGLISH VOCABULARY AND IDIOMS

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to study the concept of "conscience" as a philosophical and moral category and to analyze its objectification in the vocabulary and idioms of the English language. The study solved the following tasks: determining the essence of the concept of "conscience" as a philosophical concept and moral category; substantiating its personal and social significance; determining and describing the content and characteristics of the term "concept" in cognitive linguistics; tracing the history of objectification of the concept of conscience in English; revealing its conceptual, figurative, and evaluative components during verbalization in the vocabulary and idioms of the English language. The material of this study can be used in the preparation of lecture courses and writing teaching manuals on the lexicology of the English language, as well as in the practice of teaching English at the faculties of foreign languages and philological faculties of universities as a linguoculturological source. In addition, the research materials can be applied in English lessons in high school and in elective classes in general education institutions.
