Abstract

This article discusses the neologisms that appeared in the Russian language during the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. The explicators are language units of different levels, i.e. covid-vocabulary. The article pays special attention to the expression of the author's modality, i.e. the position of the author of the text in relation to both the covid-neologism itself and the phenomenon or object designated by this lexeme. The material for the analysis was the texts of Russian-language mass media, presented both on paper and in electronic form. According to the results of the study, the following conclusions were made: the most "sensitive" layer is the language of the media, covering the most current events, innovations, changes in all spheres of human activity. Accordingly, it can be argued that most of the neologisms get into the lexicon of speakers through the media. Accordingly, it can be argued that the neologisms used in media texts by journalists help to formulate the general attitude of the population to this problem.
