Abstract

The article discusses rare words in the historical text "Atsagatsky ocherk o khori-buryatakh” (Atsagatsky Essay on the Khori-Buryats) in the Mongolian script. The study describes this little-studied monument of the Buryat chronicle of the early 20th century. In the 1930s, as a result of an aggressive language policy, the Old Mongolian script was declared "anti-national", while the works in the Mongolian script and their authors were prohibited. The ban was not only placed on the script itself, but also on its vocabulary. The passive fund of the language includes words, figures of speech from high style, honorific forms. The article shows that the archaic words identified in the historical text belong to the high style. It is proved that the author of the text uses these tokens in certain situations to express respect and reverence for the characters of the text.
